Howdy,
Ok - this one prompted a couple of quick ideas in my wee little brain.
1 ) Seems like a really good candidate for an extension.
2) Is this really just the first question regarding a larger request for
a data dictionary feature.
3) It seems to me that somewhere I already saw a set of oooBase
functions that did this. The user name DannyB at oooForum comes to mind
- I need to go digging a bit.
As for the extension idea and thinking of what to use for a good
starting point:
The SQL92 standard and INFORMATION_SCHEMA came right to mind- of course
that doesn't help with dBase, Calc, Text based databases does it - and
would miss some of the Base specific information. Not to mention that
different vendors have taken some liberties with that specification -
HSQLdb with it;s use INFORMATION_SCHEMA.SYSTEM_TABLES vs
INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES as the specification calls for. But of course
this could be compensated for by creating a set of view definitions.
Then - looking at the Basic library "FormWizard", included in the
distribution package, module "DBMeta" I would think a guy would have a
pretty good kicking off spot.
Just a thought.
