Dear People,

I want to warn you against using OOo 1.9.79 for XP. Apart from the
fact that it crashes constanstly, it wrecks havoc to your documents.
It crashed within one week twice in such a serious manner, that my
document was in fact destroyed. This version of OOo is VERY Beta and
VERY UNRELIABLE!!! OOo is a good program, but you'd better stick to
1.1.4 or something.

Maarten

I'm using this version over two weeks and no problem.

However good or stable this release appears for any one user, the 'official' line is that it is not recommended for production use. See

http://download.openoffice.org/2.0beta/index.html

where it says,

"The software is not recommended for production deployment at this stage."

Very true. But: much beta versions from many programs offer this warning, but usually they work fine, so I felt I should isue an extra warning. I am very keen on using OOo, it's a fantastic program, but BE VERY CAREFULL with this late release; it might ruin your work. I found a way around it: i save my work under two alternating filenamens. MyDoc_a.odt & MyDoc_b.odt and I change the version every time I save it.

I expect OOo writer it works fine onder Linux and I'm sure the world will be a much better place after te alpha release but till that time: use it but be carefull. Btw: my file document is HUGE and as with M$Word, that influences stability in negative way, others who use smaller documents may not encounter any problems.

I think we must be very careful not to give any other advice or impression on the 'users' list.
