I for one am GLAD the ISO is a DVD as it saves on blank discs. CDs will be obsolete soon as they simply do not hold enough data; much like the 360k floppy. If a person does not have a DVD drive by now ($20.00 USD brand new), he may as well wait and get one with his new machine that will also have USB and a HD over a gig. Floyd

Well if that is your attitude about obsolete, then you will love this. DVDs and Blu-rays are have been declared obsolete. "They" have stated that ALL movies will be download in the next year. I do not like that idea. People cannot buy into all of the newest technologies all the time. THAT is why we need to keep in mind all of those people who, especially in the current economy, cannot buy the latest technologies must still be able to get the software. Over two-thirds of the people I deal with do not have a DVD drive and most do not have the money to buy the DVD drive just to get the newest software. I know that you can get DVDs (player) internal drives for cheap prices and burners for $30-$50. Then there is the external drives (especially for the laptops) for $50-$70. Now you can get an external Blu-ray player for as low as $120. Does that mean that we skip to the Blu-ray format now? Do we tell all of the OOo users that they will have to buy the best technology to get a disc media version of the latest OOo software? I say no. I make a CD filled with the most up to date unpacked OOo software, documents, plus, templates, dictionaries, and extensions. I want all of the people I deal with to have all of the OOo stuff accessible to them, on their computers, on a media that they can use. On the new DVD, the HTML index file with documentation references seems to be from the early days of version 2.0. I hope someone would keep it in mind that not everyone can use the DVD, and if they can, the
documents and other files should be the most up to date as possible.

I just went to the mirror project and discovered that the
newest CD ISO is actually a DVD ISO at 1.7 gig in size.

I was wondering when the 2.x CD ISOs would be upgraded to
the 3.0 files. Now it is in a DVD format. I was wondering why?

There are many computers that still do not have a DVD drive
installed. I have four. I do have and external DVD player/burner
drive but that does not help those who do not have one.

Why did the "ISO people" decide to go the DVD route, instead of
the CD route of 2.0 files?
I currently make my own CDs with the install files unpacked and add
the documents and add ons to the point the CD is filled.
I was waiting for the 3.0 ISOs to see what they were like. I use to give
out the 2.0 CDs (using the ISOs) before 3.0 came out.

So WHY the change to the DVD ISOs?
