what version of Ooo are you using? (what operating system?)
Is it a custom made sheet (with macro's and/or programming in it?)
Is it possible to share the file (strip the data if it's sensitive) so
we can have a look at it?

When I try to open a 2nd blank spreadsheet, it just pulls up the first
that is already open. If I close the first and open a blank one and
try to open the other one, the blank one goes away.
