Thanks a million!

The best news is that you were able to reproduce the problem. That's the first
step toward figuring out what is wrong.

At this point I should add some other stuff that is going on in the same
document. I have found fonts messing up all over, and not just Junicode. Also,
the Junicode font that I have installed is the same one that I have used for a
couple of years with OOo and I never had any issues with it. But from what you
say, I am now suspecting that there is something with 3.0x and fonts.

An example of an issue in this same document: On one page there is a table (an
answer sheet) with 10 columns. Columns 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 are for the question
number and the adjacent cells are for the answers. The answers are all single
IPA characters in brackets like this: [x]. In a couple of places I had entered
characters with very high Unicode numbers. These characters appeared fine on
screen but failed to print. Not only did they fail to print, but in the
printout the brackets collapsed into the space where the character was supposed
to be, and - get this - the columns to the right were misaligned to the left by
the width of the missing character. The columns were misaligned only in the
printout; on screen they looked fine. I mean, a column is a column and
characters in the column are not supposed to print to the left of the column
border regardless of what is going on in the columns to the left.

Another thing: My OOo 3.0x has been crash happy since I first installed it. And
the most common situation where it will crash is when changing fonts for a
section of text.

I think we're on to tracking down some kind of font issue in 3.0.
