Thanks for your reply, Twayne. As I just replied to M. Fioretti, the problem goes away if I type out the suffix I want but I don't understand why you are not having the same problem. I'll try to reinstall as you suggested. Thank you.

I've been using the 2.4 version of OOo for some time and have saved

first attempt at saving a file in this format won't work. I'm doing
the same thing I've always done, namely, Save As Microsoft Word .doc
format. When I do this the file appears as an .odt file.

Has anyone had the same problem? If so, is there a solution
available?
Thanks.

Hmm, I have 3.01 or whavetever it is called, on XP Pro SP3 and I just tried a Save to all the Word formats to be sure, and they all work fine. Word for 07, 96, Word 6 and .rtf formats. Each one worked fine. Are you by any chance perhaps clicking the wrong choice when you get the dialog about saving in the format or saving as an odt file? You have to click the "Keep this format", not the "keep odt format". I know it's silly but sometimes the little things ... <g>.

I haven't heard or seen others complain about it either. What OS and version are you using? Is the generated .odt file a valid file? In other words, can you open it and see that it's the same file you saved?

I don't recall anything in the Options that would cause that but it might be worth a look through them, the ones for writer and the general at least.

If it's not cockpit error, then I think I'd suggest checking the Hash value on the web site and download their Hash tool to be sure your downloaded file matches the Hash calculation (it's just a fancier CRC<g>). I think the Hash program was called digest_it or something like that; it's been quite awhile. If the Hash is wrong or you can't get the Hash, then it might be a good idea to redownload it, then uninstall and reinstall the program, only this time disconnect from the internet and turn off your AV to do the install. Sometimes AV can whack a download but it's not likely nowadays. Worth trying though. Don't forget to turn your AV back on before reconnecting to the internet. Oh; sorry: AV = AntiVirus software.

HTH,

Twayne
