Only if what's in the PDF is text. I have quite a number of PDFs which
are scans of book pages that haven't been OCR'd/whatever to be
searchable. Mind you, at the price I paid (nothing)[1], I'm not
complaining. :-)
Of course. if it's not text it can't be scanned unless the scanner is
willing to OCR it.
Of course, anything created in OOo is likely to contain searchable text.
Likely but not necessarily; no more than a PDF. I can just as easily
scan to an OOo image as I can to a PDF image.
[1] They were legitimately acquired, BTW. Just in case you were
wondering.
