Many of them place the resumes into a database, which they then search
for qualifications. I have had interviews, where I could see my resume
in front of the interviewer and it looked nothing like what I had
submitted, because it was pulled from the database and not just a print
out of what I had submitted. If you submit a resume in a form the
employer or recruiter is not prepared to handle, it may be discarded
without consideration. Also, if you submit your resume via a web site,
it will tell you acceptable formats, which are usually .DOC or plain text.
You conveniently clipped out the part where the OP specifically stated
that "SOME" companies require searchable text. There was no
recommendation, either way, to use or not use PDF. Merely a response to
one specific point.
