Recently downloaded 'OpenOffice' and intend to use it as my word processor and email editor.
1. Promptly received a *.PUB file from a friend; Is Open Office able to handle Publisher files?
2. Does Open Office include an email program? If not, will it act as an
email editor in 'Windows Mail'?
Thanks,

(Sorry about the multiple addresses -- the first is what you used to
post, the second is in the post -- and with gmail involved, you may be
using the Gmane newsreader. Anyway...)
About .pub files -- no, OOo doesn't read them; AFAIK, only MS Publisher
can make use of these. In OOo, this type of material is generally
created with Writer and/or Draw, and many people also use Scribus
(www.scribus.org; open source, designed for serious desktop publishing
operations). If you can get your correspondent to use another format,
there are many that can be used, with .doc probably the most
interoperable, if Publisher will write that.
OOo does not include an e-mail program and Windows Mail certainly won't
use it. Many people here use Thunderbird (www.mozilla.org) or its
relative, Seamonkey. Neither of them use the Writer component of OOo to
compose mail, though. OOo does have the capabiility to send documents as
e-mail, using either the system default e-mail client (in Windows
environments) or a configurable path to one (in other operating systems).
