After removing OpenOffice from memory and restarting it, I then
attempted to open the file from within OpenOffice Writer, selecting
"Read-only" in the Open dialogue box. The file opened without a
problem. I scrolled through it without a problem.
I saved the file as DL2.odt. This new file DL2.odt opens perfectly by
clicking on its icon or from within OpenOffice Writer. Whatever was
causing the problem has been fixed.
From this experience it appears that good general advice might be
that if you have any difficulty opening a file in OpenOffice, try
opening it as "Read-only".
I tried that and it was as you said.
But when I tried to save the file, I got a "general input/output error"
message.
Thanks.
Odd. The DL2.odt file I created can be saved under any other name or be
edited and saved under the same name.
I tried again opening DL.odt as "Read-only" and again had no problem
reading it in and no problem saving it under another name, at which
point the file in memory ceased to be read-only, as would be expected.
I cannot duplicate your "general input/output error" message.
You might try deleting portions of the file as viewed in OpenOffice
Writer and seeing if you can track down which portion of the file is
causing trouble on your system, or perhaps if it is size alone.
