Dean:

You need to use the X11 version that came with MacOSX 10.4 (Tiger) and not the 
version that can be downloaded from Apple as it is for MacOSX 10.3 (Panther).

Please look at the FAQs and Installation pages which can be accessed from
the Mac OSX porting team's web page at http://porting.openoffice.org/mac
for more information on using OpenOffice.org with your Mac.

BTW, progress is being made, very slowly on a Aqua Native version of
OpenOffice.org. Again, more information is available from the web page above.
