The recipients are likely using Microsoft Word. Since Microsoft refuses to support the ISO standard format, you'll have to save in Word format. Use Save as to select Word format. You could also export a PDF, if the recipients don't have to edit the file. Of course, the best solutiion would be to get your friends to use OpenOffice.
