Linux, Mac, Solaris, Windows, etc.) is some flavor of Windows and your recipients are trying to open your documents with a Microsoft program (eg. MS Word). If you just "Save" a document created in OOo (OpenOffice.org) Writer the document will by default be saved in OpenDocument ISO/IEC 26300:2006 standard file format. Unfortunately, Microsoft refuse to include import filters for this internationally recognized open file format in any of their software. Fortunately, there are a number of alternative options: 1. If your recipients do not need to edit, but just simply read your document, you can use the OOo export or email as Pdf functions, to create a PDF (Portable Document Format) file, which can be viewed by almost any computer in the world. 2. Propose that your recipients obtain, or give them, a copy of OOo to install on their computers. It's free and will peacefully coexist with equivalent office software on the same computer. 3. Propose that your recipients obtain the Sun OpenDocument plug-in for Microsoft Office. This gives MS Office the ability to read and write documents in the OpenDocument file format, freeing users from Microsoft's propriety lock-in file format. The plug-in is free and can be downloaded from: http://www.sun.com/software/star/odf_plugin 4. If you are compelled to send your documents in a Non-ISO approved file format, use the OOo "File -> Save As..." menu option and select the format from the "File Type/Filter" drop-down list. Hope this helps. Dave - -- This is a mailing list which exists to support users of OpenOffice.org All answers are given by other users who volunteer their time.
