OpenOffice is an excellent office suite, as you've noticed. It will not
interfere with any other application. The only thing you have to be
careful about, is the screen where you select which applications you
want to be default for Microsoft Office files. If the boxes are
checked, OpenOffice will be default. OpenOffice has excellent, though
not perfect compatibility with Microsoft Office, though it currently
cannot read or write files from Microsoft Office 2007.
