The prof requires it because there is and editing function that she has that
only works with 2003.doc. Every format I have tried to submit has not worked
with her editing software.

Why is it that Word 2003 "doc" is so important? I don't know if the
.DOC format in Word 2003 is different from earlier recent versions of
Word. If the class absolutely requires Word 2003, I guess you'll have
to buy it (if you still can), but I cannot understand why that
instructor is so restrictive. If anyone were to buy a new computer
these days, they certainly wouldn't have it and I just checked a major
office supply store and they don't have anything older than Office 2007.
