Hello,
I have just been reading about the Open Office Suite, it sounds
exciting. I am so tired of the outdated MS Office I am working
with...my Word program is constantly crashing on me and trying to
recover my documents and work. I did not get a MS version of SW but
all the dubbed copies of Office from Dell Computers when I bought my
system in 2002.

My question is...can I uninstall the MS Office components to use your
Suite, without loosing any of "MY Documents"???

I also have a load of original photography on my HD's and digitized
versions that I have created in Photoshop. How does all this work
together? I can't afford to lose any of my "creative writing" ex:
poems, novels, screenplays or graphics & photography files, even if
your SW is FREE.

Barbara,

No. You will not lose any of the files you created using MSOffice that are stored in My Documents or subfolders under it. Installing/uninstalling apps will not affect files that you have created. Uninstalling MS Office will not delet them if you wish to uninstall it. Actually if you're still in the learning curve on OOo, it's a good idea to leave office installed for awhile until you're sure you can do without it.

That said, if your "creative writing" is important to you, eventually you WILL have a problem of some sort, unrelated to OOo, eventually, and you WILL lose all, most, or some of your work. It is extremely important to back up that data to another location NOT on your hard drive. Either an external hard drive or better yet, CD or DVD media. Sometime between the next few seconds and a few years from now, you WILL lose files for the "normal| corruption and problems that operating systems encounter. Also viruses, worms, trojans, etc. can delete them if you get the right one. Somehow, some way, please get your data copied to CDs or DVDs or stored somewhere else than on your computer so that you can replace t hem if you ever need to. There are many methods from simply copying to imaging software to do this for you.

Second, you should never post personal data on a newsgroup, even this one.
