I am so tired of the outdated MS Office I am working with...my Word program is constantly crashing on me and trying to recover my documents and work. I did not get a MS version of SW but all the dubbed copies of Office from Dell Computers when I bought my system in 2002.My question is...can I uninstall the MS Office components to use your Suite, without loosing any of "MY Documents"???I also have a load of original photography on my HD's and digitized versions that I have created in Photoshop. How does all this work together? I can't afford to lose any of my "creative writing" ex: poems, novels, screenplays or graphics & photography files, even if your SW is FREE.Barbara RodneyYes, you can uninstall the MS Office components, or you can leave them installed. I still have Office 97 installed on my machine even though I use Open Office.org. When you install OO.o you will be asked if you want to make it the default program to open MS Office files. The choice is yours and you can change it later if you want. Macros from MS Office will not work properly in OO.o, so you will need to redo any that you have. That is the primary reason I still have Office 97 installed. I had created some online forms that I seldom use anymore, and I haven't redone the macro's in OO.o. Another thing is that some esoteric formating may not convert properly. Installing OO.o will not have any impact on any files that are stored on your hard drive. Pictures from Photoshop can be imported into OO.o just like they can be imported into MS Office. The menu and command structure in OO.o is similar to Ms Office, but it is not identical. Once you get used to the differences, I think you will love OO.o. When you save a file from OO.o, you can save it in the default Open Document Format (ODF) or you can select another format (including MS formats) from a drop down list. If you open a MS formated file then save it in ODF you will have both files on you hard drive.
