Thank you for getting back to me and I apologize for not providing
details.
I've tried Thunderbird but I'm not a big fan. I have been using
Firefox for
years though and like it very much!
I really like that Outlook bundles email and calendar functions into one.
Of course they bundle other things in there as well, but I don't use
those
things. Tasks, journal...none of that stuff. I like having an email
client
that allows for multiple email addresses and has a calendar function too!
Thank you for your response and have a great day!
If you add the Lightning calendar extension to Thunderbird, you will
find that it almost completely approximates to what Outlook can do....
Although lightning will be a nice calendering system, for many people
it is not quite ready for prime time yet. I like the fact that you can
create repeating tasks, the only problem is that as soon as you mark one
occurrence as complete, it marks ALL occurrences as complete. Yes it is
being worked on, but I don't expect to see it for release 0.9 and I am
not holding my breath for 1.0 either. There are still problems with
communication with Outlook that need to be solved for there to be
acceptance for business use. Plus like all Mozilla software it is a bit
difficult for a novice to deal with because the concept of the
underlaying software is so user configurable. While this is a good thing
for many, it can be a drawback for many who do not have the patience and
/ or the background to deal with it.
The above and other reasons are why I am reluctant to recommend
Thunderbird with Lightning as an alternative to Outlook at this time. I
do believe that it will get there, I just do not believe that it is
ready for prime time at this time. Especially for someone that is a
novice user.
That said, if someone wants an integrated mail and calender system and
that understands that it is still a work in progress it is a very usable
combination.
Regards
Keith
