I think that most of those who wants icons on the desktop are
beginners, while we who want a clean desktop are more experienced

experience, we can easily remove or just move the desktop icons to
where
ever we want while those who are not so experienced maybe are
grateful for
having them served right at fron of them. So I don't think that
would be a
big problem, but that's maybe only what I think.
I agree totally. I think the default should be to put an icon on the
desktop, with a choice not to. As Johnny says, novice users have come
to expect that a new program will have an icon on the desktop once it
installs. It can be confusing when there isn't even an option to have
that done. Experienced users, who don't want icons, can easily delete
them.

I have to disagree. No matter if you are experienced or novice, the
question of desktopicons is about personally preferences,
I build my first pc in -86 or -87 and see my self as an experienced user.
I want icons for programs that i use often to be on the desktop, and the
programs that i use every day i put in the fast start bar.
In a way this is one of the things that opensource is about: That i can
use my computer in the way that i want, and not in the way that some
big company or experienced users tell me that i have to.
To make this a question about experience or not, remind me of the
talking about serious and non-serious user in the good old days of the
Commodore 64.
