Thanks very much to all who responded about my carburetor problems:
Bob, good idea, I've sent a mail to PCW requesting the needle and jet
info; I think the 160 mains they sent are Mikuni.
Vern, I'm hoping I won't need to shell out for new carburetors! But if
I do, I might consider UFO's V-GAS system (except I think my knees might
hit the velocity stacks!).
TC, GREAT bunch of info! I think you hit the nail on the head about the
pilot jets being too small, because we had to adjust the mixture screws
out to almost 4 turns to get it to stop backfiring at idle (with the
needle clips in the second position.)
Is there any disadvantage to decreasing the size of the pilot air jet,
as opposed to increasing the size of the pilot fuel jet, especially for
a 1500 cc engine? I want to do whatever will make it run best, even if
it's a bigger job. It sounds like the PAJ replacement is pretty simple.
Assume I decide to increase the pilot fuel jet size: Ken, Dennis, TC,
how long did it take you to change the pilot fuel jets? (I'll multiply
that by 2 or 3, since I have 10 thumbs.)
Also, since I'll have the float bowls off if I change the pilot jets, I
guess I'll change the mains at the same time, as you suggested, TC.
I've bought a DynoJet kit from Tyler Pennock that has 4 each of the DJ
160's, 165's, and 170 main jets. So should I use the DJ160's (on a 1500
cc engine with no "Y" and a Hindle Super Sport can), or should I go with
one of the larger ones?
