Hi and thanks Steve,

I've read your earlier mails and was looking forward to get in touch with you to get
your real impressions.

The problem I see here for starters is cost. Here in Spain where I'm living right now
it would be impossible to get a set from a wrecked bike since there are not that many
R1 bikes around, so my only possibility would be to purchase them new (by the way I
think the R1 2000 model has different units), but their price over here is around $
900 US each unit. On the other hand I really need to get radical, that is, that the
brakes are as powerful as (taking into account the difference in weight between the
Max and the CBR 900 RR) the Honda's brakes, and I'm afraid that the R1 would be a big
improvement, but not what I'm looking around for. I guess that what you feel is more
or less the same as what someone riding an older version of a Max with the smaller
front brakes would feel trying a new Max with the bigger dia, double piston callipers
such as I have on my year old Max.

I already have braided brake lines which made the braking feel stiffer and more
positive, but that is peanuts compared with the CBR.

Last night I had a close one while riding the CBR. I was doing 110 MPH on a rather
twisty highway. As I looked ahead on a slightly sloped road, I could clearly see that
about 800 feet ahead of me there was a nice wide turn to the right, the type you like
to take fast so I accelerated in fifth gear and started tilting the bike to my right.
As I got to the top of the hill I realised that what I thought to be the motorway
turning right was really a road passing under my road and coming out up a hill to the
right of me. In a split of a second I reacted, did not panic (thank God) and threw the
bike hard to the left, braking hard, locking both front and rear, releasing before I
lost control, braking again and so on. I felt I'd lost the fight, but the noble
behaviour of the bike and the tremendous braking power allowed me to be here sending
this message right now. Hope you understand that what I'm looking for is not just an
improvement........

Best regards,

Charles ( [EMAIL PROTECTED] )
