Speaking of VAGUE topics, how about a mini seminar on emacs use?
Maybe the same for vi, so as not to start a religous war....
separation of church and mailing list and all. I've just started
using emacs again for ruby, as the ruby plugin for eclipse made me
mad. I start using emacs again every 3-4 years and end up having to
re-learn a bunch of stuff. I'd be interested to hear what regular
emacs users use for add-ons (I think there is a more appropriate term)
for different languages (java, ruby, xml, html come to mind)

Seconded. I'm much more of a command-line sort of person by preference, and would love to see how I can use emacs (and/or vi) in all its power and glory for development in Java (including JSP), Perl, PHP, XML, HTML, and so on. Also would like to know how to use it for general text documents.
