Arre Madam aap ki yaad shakti ko kya ho gaya hai? Remember, Kargil happened
during winters and it was a mutual agreement between the two countries that
they leave their posts during this time as it virtually impossible to man the
borders at sub zero temperatures! It happened for years! Now, if our neighbour
ditches us again how would you know so instantly! Kargil was the brain child of
Musharaf and because of him so many innocent lives were killed on both the
sides! Kargil was a victory in every sense since it was almost impossible to
fight the enemy against all the odds! Well, your argument that our intelligence
is crap may be correct to some extent but remember the intelligence had warned
during the Kargil time as well as during the recent terror attacks of the
possible attacks through the sea route! But if our babus and the politicians
choose to act otherwise our intelligence cannot do much!

It's not true nobody has dared to lay fingers on the US after that...they have
been trying and that is their ultimate goal. Mumbai, Islamabad, Bali is all
chindi for them. It's US they are after. The difference is after 9/11 US became
extremely cautious, very intelligent, foresaw trends and activities, kept a
track of what's happening, tightened its security to an annoying extent.
In UK too they have been plotting. The guy from Bangalore, (whose cousin in
Australia almost became a hero) they drove a burning car into Glasgow
airport...but before that their plot was exposed and many such vehicles were
found in London before they could explode.
They immediately spotted the liquid bomb possibility and immediately thwarted
any such attempt.
Ours is different, we just talk, threaten, complain, whine...and then again the
country starts running "bhagwan bharose" until we are hit again.
What happened in Kargil...we are callin it victory. What is so victorious about
pushing enemies from your house when they were never supposed to be inside your
house. That too after losing so many young lives.
Our intelligence is crap, that's the bottom line

Iraq,. I totally agree..and it was not until 2003 that he attacked Iraq..as I
said, I always thought otherwise..never supported Bush for what he did..used to
think just like you..but on hindsight, now I feel that him attacking
Afghanistan in 2001 (I think I'd mentioned 2001 in my previous mail) after the
9/11 attacks is somehow justified..when I think about it, nobody has dared to
lay their fingers on the US after that..

So Bush attacking Iraq as a response to 9/11 was wise? while Osama Bin Laden
chills out in his caves and shaukiya taur pe sends terror videos to the world?
He said he will smoke out Laden just after 9/11 and they did just that with
Iraq when that country had no role to play in terrorism againt USA.

Subu,

Couldn't agree more with everything that you've written..

I used to think differently earlier about what Bush did, but I've gotto say now
that howmuchever of a nincompoop he might be, what he did at that point of
time (2001) was the correct thing to do, he had to show the world that there is
no way anybody could come into his country and get away with it..I absolutely
don't expect the Indian political class to do anything even remotely similar to
that..The whole commando operation seemed very badly done , both timing wise
and execution wise, and the poor commandos had to pay..God save India!
