Description The unconscionable violence that Mumbai has experienced
this last week has left many of us in shock and horror. We watch with
increasing dread as politicians from India and Pakistan point fingers at each
other, and the media in both countries dances to their tune.

But we refuse to sit back and watch our hard-earned progress towards peace be
jeopardised by these events. As individual citizens of India and Pakistan we
would like to reach out and set an example – that we stand together in our
suffering, and are united in our condemnation of terror.

We are therefore organising a vigil at India House in Adlwych, London this
Thursday (4th December) from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. The event will be a gathering of
individuals who wish to express their grief and support to the families of all
those who lost their lives in the attacks. The vigil will be strictly
apolitical, so that those who attend may speak with their own voices.

Lighting a candle may be a small gesture, and it is. But it is an act premised
on a sense of civility, compassion and human decency. We encourage all those
who wish to lend their voices in support of the Mumbai victims and in
condemnation of terrorism to attend, regardless of nationality or creed.

Well no one is doubting your patriotism. Arre baba, the comparison was
started by you between Saddam Hussein and Narendra Modi, now how can you
compare the two! Well, i agree that Narendra Modi's reputation because of the
Gujarat riots has been tarnished but look at the facts, he still got chosen for
the 2nd time! Isnt it stupendous! Now, dont tell me it was rigged and all! He
is definately one of the most efficient chief minsters in India! Corruption is
the lowest in Gujarat! Dont we know how he wooed the Tata's to bring the Nano
to Gujarat!!! In fact, I would go on to say that if BJP came to power in the
next general elections he should become the Prime minister, Advani is a strict
"no no" for me atleast!!!!

This very man has refused to accept commissions after commissions that Godhra
carnage was not caused by Muslims. Frankly, i never believed in Nanavati
commission.
One of the most efficient CMs?...Phooo. I saw middle class Gujaratis men and
women running and rampaging and stealing from super stores during the riot. The
bias in Gujarat runs deeper than any other place in India. since the law of the
land is applicable here--I find this statement very naive. About having a soft
corner with Pak...I just see it as a troubled country with the general populace
like you and me. Trying hard to lead a comfortable life by working hard, eating
good and enjoying cricket. I feel the same for Afghanistan, in fact I feel more
for them. But my love for India cannot be judged by how much i hate Pakistan or
Afghanistan, for that matter.

How ridiculous is your comparison, India is a democratic country in the
first place and no outsider can take any action on us since the law of the land
is applicable here. You are comparing one of the most effecient chief
ministers to the self styled dictator like Saddam Hussein! Now, I know that
people think that Modi is responsible for all the killings but on record he has
been given a clean chit by the Nanavati commission which was appointed to probe
his role. Also remember the people of Gujarat has voted him back to power after
the Gujarat riots! So even if certain sections of people think he was
responsible for the Gujarat riots but there is no proof of the same, it could
be people's speculation!

So Bush was concerned about turks being killed in a different country 5,000
years ago. By that standard he could have come to India to kill Modi.

So Bush attacking Iraq as a response to 9/11 was wise? while Osama Bin Laden
chills out in his caves and shaukiya taur pe sends terror videos to the world?
He said he will smoke out Laden just after 9/11 and they did just that with
Iraq when that country had no role to play in terrorism againt USA.

  Subu,

Couldn't agree more with everything that you've written..

I used to think differently earlier about what Bush did, but I've gotto say now
that howmuchever of a nincompoop he might be, what he did at that point of
time (2001) was the correct thing to do, he had to show the world that there is
no way anybody could come into his country and get away with it..I absolutely
don't expect the Indian political class to do anything even remotely similar to
that..The whole commando operation seemed very badly done , both timing wise
and execution wise, and the poor commandos had to pay..God save India!
