Chris,

Having done plenty of hard time in dependency hell, I can assure you 
that the VirtualBox extension pack is not in that category.  It works 
only with VirtualBox, neither has nor needs any other dependencies, and 
will not cause problems with any other package.  As far as I know it is 
not carried in any repository (certainly not in the CentOS/SL/RHEL yum 
repos I use), and if it is, then it should be up to the distro/repo that 
includes it to keep up with updates.  The "proper" way to handle it is 
to download the latest version from the site and install it.  There are 
multiple ways of accomplishing this but I usually do it from Preferences.
