Yes, OK, I agree.

However as a general rule I (and many sensible people) avoid installing
anything from outside the repositories.  Telling me "this one is
perfectly safe and won't cause problems" is all very well but it really
would be easier/better if the Extension Pack was delivered the same was
as VirtualBox itself.

Another very good reason for delivering it from a proper repository is
that it will get updated automatically as and when new versions appear. 
One of the major advantages of using a repository is that one doesn't
have to go checking for new versions with fixes, security updates, etc.
they arrive automatically when your system does it regular weekly (or
whatever) check.

As it is the Extension Pack will get more and more out of step with the
installed VirtualBox unless I go out of my way to check it regularly.
