Now, I went into the 'source' Desktop's V'Box's
Settings/System/Acceleration
and in "Hardware Virtualization deselected "Enable VT-x/AMD-V"
Clicked on OK, but if I then returned to that menu I see that the
"Enable VT-x" option has been *re-selected*!
That led to me assuming that perhaps it doesn't mean "Enable" but was
simply telling me that the machine has VT-x enabled in the BIOS (or
perhaps within the VM).
So I went into BIOS and Disabled Virtualization, but after rebooting I
still see the same siuation in Settings/System/Acceleration/"Hardware
Virtualization".
Furthermore, if I then boot the VM, I get the following failure report:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------(This is with VT Disabled in BIOS)
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows XP SP3.
VT-x features locked or unavailable in MSR.
(VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED).
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb}
----------------------------------------------
So why - if the BIOS virtualization is Disabled - does V'Box try to use
it?
(And it won't allow me to deselect VT-x in Settings)
Has the use of VT-x been somehow bound into the VM itself, with V'Box
unable to disable it?
If so, there seems no hope of running that VM on a non-VT-x machine.
