Chuck, You covered one of the biggest mistakes made in fishing poppers. Wait till you can't wait any longer then wait a bit more. The strips generally comes just before the pickup. There are EXCEPTIONS to the rule though. LOL I have not fished them for trout so things may be different. Tony

I try to cast them UNDER over hanging trees and bushes, or around cover like lily pads, fallen trees etc. On color, even if I paint the popper black, i paint the "face" of the poppers white or yellow so I can see it at all times. Color is up to the fish, but I use light colors in clear water, and dark colors on dark or stained waters..
