To round out the Mike Lawson story... Mike has a section in his Spring Creek presentation (to support his last book effort), in which he describes his entry of a no-hackle dun in the Jackson Hole One-Fly contest.
Entrants to this high-profile annual event are only allowed to use one fly, period. Break off the fly, and you are done for the day. Flies for the event are usually heavy duty, the Chernobyl Ants, and such. A no-hackle dun is one of Mike's favorite spring creek flies, but it's a fragile fly. Here's a Web pic of one: http://www.kossiedun.com.au/web_images/Bugwatch/No_Hackle_Dun_R.JPG Lawson managed to fish the fly the entire day, and the funny part was the close-up photo he showed of the fly after the event. Talk about a bad hair day...nothing left but a bunch of disconnected wing fibers on a dubbed body. Fish still loved the mess though. If you get a chance to see one of Mike Lawson's presentations, hop at it. He's a fun guy, with a self-effacing demeanor. Past lister Mark Romero (he and Misa are doing great, BTW) described Lawson very colorfully...Deputy Dawg.
