Misa should be home from Japan this fall, her Mom is not well and she
decided she has the time to spend with her, while it matters most.
When she comes back she will be doing some more Tenkara workshops, she
does a very good job and has the history. I'm taking her next workshop
to give it a try.

That's the one. It's a cheap way to try tenkara fishing. You can put a loop
on the piece of fly line you want to and do a loop to eye connection. Another
way, as I found out by accident, the one I bought had a butt cap on it which
came off and I could have popped the tip top off and threaded the fly line
through the rod and seated it with some Goop or flexible cement. Cabela's
recommendation that the line shouldn't be longer than the rod is right on the
money. If you're planning on using a leader, you might want to make a bit
shorter.

same company except the price which was $275 less than the shop owner. I
used it a couple of times but it's tough to use a 10 foot rod. Still if
folks are interested in getting into tenkara fishing, it's an inexpensive
way to get started.

Has anyone else here gotten into Tenkara yet? I'm now using it where I
used to go to my two weight. 5th year of drought, the rivers and creeks
are low, Tenkara means sight casting to small fish , for the most part.
And you can get a deep rod bend out of a 5 inch sunfish.
We are also having some luck in using Tenkara to get new fishermen
interested in the fly. The rods are a little steep, but there's no reel
involved and lines go for $2 - $20. Very light and easy to cast. We
(my local fly club) have a beginner's Tenkara outing scheduled for next
weekend and we have 30 people signed up. We'll pair them up with
experienced fishermen and get them rolling. Gonna have to put a few on
regular rods part-time 'cause we don't have access to that many T-rods.
