But we didn't realize we were poor. Nobody else had any money either. You did with what you had or could get for next to nothing. I think bamboo 'poles' (actually just long bamboo stalks) were about 2 or 3 bucks back then.

And did we catch fish? Yes. During WWII, that was 'free' food.
