Ooohh... I feel debate coming on. In my humble opinion it's all OK. Half of the flies out there really don't imitate a darn thing... so it ends up being a lure or attractor anyway... what's the diff.... my 0.02

The latest issue of Fly Tyer magazine has an article about using hardware like spinner blades and propellors on flies, streamer & bucktail type patterns, that is. The article was written by Art Scheck, whom I know is very highly respected. The first eight paragraphs or so consist of a justification and defense of the practice by citing the historical (pre-WW II) use of hardware on flies. The rest of the article consists of how to tie flies with hardware and fishing tips for them. I'm just wondering if anyone on the list puts hardware on their flies? Does anyone feel this is, well, just kind of wrong? Being relatively new (only a few years) to flyfishing, I'm open to new or even old ideas that have come around again, but somehow or another this seems to cross some kind of line, even though so knowledgeable and respected an authority as Mr Scheck endorses it. I know flyfishing and tying is a big tent, but I wonder how other people on the list feel.
