Ok, Kevin, start with a fly rod. You'll be better off.
You'll seldom if ever go back to your spining gear.

Fly Rod? Aren't they expensive? Only doctors, lawyers, and the well off can afford that type of gear. Besides, I want to catch fish for the table and for sport, not to wave a rod around like a snooty rich kid.

OK Kevin

There are lots of different ways to enjoy fly fishing.

After working for 22 years for one employer , I have returned to college at the same time my daughter started college.  My jeep has body rot and 244,000 miles on it.  My insurance company is refusing to pay for my medication.  Can you spell tight budget?

You can enjoy fly tying and fishing on a low budget.  Catching a fish on a fly that I have tied is just about 4x as good as catching a fish on bait.

If you want ULTRA low budget, take a cane pole, tie on about 10 feet of fly line and three feet of 15 pound monofilament line and then three feet of 4 pound test, a fly and go fishing.  Isaac Walton didn't use $200 dollar rod that's for sure.

Fly fishing can be the finest way to spend time outdoors.
