Thanks,
Yours an Dan's are a bit different so will have to experiment. Did
manage to get the "Paint" striped today between everything else, ( don't
ask, all bad). Seams this rod has been broken bad before. The butt section
is a "Shakespeare Alpha" and the tip is pieced together from a "Zebco 5'
Light Action", ( Why Me). I am going to have to do some major re-work and
then attach the guilds temporarily and see if it will even cast, "Who"
knows. This poor thing has had one rough life, but maybe I can come to a
happy medium. Sure wish folks would leave stuff alone when they are not
familiar with it. If it wasn't for doing it for a friend I would just strip
what usable hardware there is and chunk it. But I will "Endeavor to
Persevere"

Hey Jimi-
Sorry to take so long to get back to you on this. Went out after work for a
cup of coffee with the ems crew and wound up going on a ride-along. Got home
way late.
This is from Mel Marshal's book "How to Build Your Own Fishing Rod" from the
chapter on fly rods. He makes a distinction between dry fly rods (fast
action) and nymph rods (medium action) so I'm including both. Measurements
are from tip of rod toward butt in inches for an 8' rod.
Dry fly rod (fast
action):3...3-1/2,8...8-1/2,13...13-1/2,18...18-1/2,24...24-1/2,30...30-1/2,
38...39,48...49,62...63.
Nynph rod (med
action):3,7,11,16...17,22...23,29...30,38...39,44...45,52...53,63...64.
Hope this helps.

placement ???

Hey Jimi-
I'm at work right now, if nobody has given you a definite answer by late
tonight (I get off at 11 PM) I'll look it up and send it to you. My wife got
me 3 books on rod building for Christmas, so now, apparently I have her
blessing to start digging a new money hole. Woo-hoo! Rod building here I
come. Actually have a blank and all the fixings sitting in a corner of the
tying room awaiting my attention, gonna get on it after the Holidays.
Hope you and your family had a good Christmas.
BTW, I think PETA Sally is yanking our legs pretty hard. Just a little too
far over the top to be real.

measurements for an 8' fiberglass fly rod ? A
friend of mine has one that all the guilds are gone off of it and he wants
me to try to "Fix" it. More than likely I will have to remove the epoxy
finish off of it as well, any tips ? And, before anyone asks, this rod was
"re-built" ounce before so I have no idea which guild marks are the correct
ones, whoever did it before just "Stuck" them on and believe me, they were
"Way" off of what it should have been.

Thanks,
Jimi
