In addition to the tips already offered, when tying tinsel bodies where there is tailing material take the waste portion of the tailing material forward to where the tinsel body will end. I just tied a Rolled Muddler for a book photo and, in addition to the double layer of tinsel and flattened thread base, this is how I avoided any tail "lumps".
