Late to the table as a number of the questions have already been answered. The originator of the Rolled Muddler is a friend, Tom Murray. Tom originated this pattern for fishing searun cutts from the beach. However, it's obviously a good pattern for fry imitations anywhere. The original has a small, but otherwise normal (at least for me), Muddler head, clipped underneath (I flatten the underneath of all Muddler heads). OTOH, I can't imagine any drop in effectiveness by keeping the hair on top and flairing (this means no clipped hair underneath the head). Cheers, Paul -- Paul Marriner Outdoor Writing & Photography.
