John: Years ago I bought a leader kit (from Orvis) and tied all my leaders. It was a lot of fun, a little bit of work, but I was quite gratified to do that, just as it is gratifying to catch fish on your hand-tied flies, on the rod you built yourself, etc., blah blah. What I didn't like was the fact that hand-tied leaders are (obviously) filled with knots. It drove me crazy because the knots, even as small as they were, seemed to catch on EVERYTHING. I still have the old kit and some of the unused leader, but choose to buy the no-knot tapered leaders. Climax are my first choice.
Larry Johnson >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 02/27/03 08:55PM >>> Does anyone on the list tie their own leaders? I am not talking about furled or braided leaders, just tying different size line together? I was thinking about getting the umpqua leader building kit, or just buying spools of the sizes I need. If you just buy the sizes like say I want to buy .021 for a butt section, do I still just buy leader/tippet material or am i gettign into a different leader material? john ridderbos
