John,
Here is one more tip - and there will be those on the list who will not
agree.  I have taken broken tapered leaders and using the mic. determined
what is missing.  I have then used that as the butt of my leader, and tied
new leader onto it to complete it.
Perhaps a bit "cheap," but I was heavily influenced by a Pennsylvania-Dutch
grandmother who said, "Waste not- want not."
