STEVE,
Let me guess your route. Out of Horseshoe meadows....up & over
Cottenwood Pass...west past the stringer & then swinging south down
Golden Trout Creek from Big Whitney Meadows towards Tunnel
meadows....Right?????
Golden Trout Creek is a fine stream loaded, as you stated, with
Goldens.. specifically Volcano Creek Goldens (O. Aquabonita).
The Lakes the other Flyfisher was fishing....were they the Rocky
Basin Lakes???? Great to hear they are producing large Goldens again.
Seems they suffered a Winter Kill of some degree back in 1996 or
around there... Also had heard that Bait Drowners had hammered them
really hard one year & killed a great many of the Large ones... They
baiscally emptyied the lakes... Nowadays they can't bait fish in the
Golden Trout Wilderness...barbless Flies & Lures only.... Teh Only
Wilderness area in the Sierras with such regulations...at present
time.
I'll have to seriously plan another trip into that corner of the
Golden Trout Wilderness Area.... It is beautiful there!!!!

Did you get far enough down Golden Trout Great to get to Little
Whitney Meadows???... the creek in that area is Really beautiful as
are the Volcano Creek Goldens that live there. From there it's an
easy hike to Volcano Creek and the Right & Left Stringers...
"Signature Streams" for the Volcano Creek Goldens...

Dave Glad to hear you enjoyed the region, I have numerous times.
Did you Kiss the Goldens before you let them go???? Makes the Golden
Trout Gods love you & you'll always have their favouring when you
fish for the Various Species of Goldens.....

    DEAN....
