Henk:

"Cardig Brushes", like Royce Dam uses, are wire
brushes for combing long haired animals. Employing
Royces' technique--the brushes are used to separate
the wool after it is cut from the hide. This enables
the tyer to simply pull off the needed amount of
material (wool) to dub the fly. It is a very simple
technique and very fast to use. I have been tying dry
flys using this technique for a couple of
years---since I seen Royce demonstrate his tying
skills at the SOWBUG ROUNDUP in Mt. Home Arkansas.

You can purchase "carding brushes" from many sources
but log onto:

www.woolery.com

that should get you going. You could also look at
local pet supply sources.

I like Royce Dam's techniques; simple and
practical--he is a colorfull character. You'd like
him.
