Rene, As Hans once said of humpies- proportions, proportions, proportions. That is true of all flies. There a lot of guidelines on proportions, but when a fly is right, it just looks right. I always use a hackle wrapped a couple of times around the front of the finished fly to see if I like the proportions of the hackles vs. the fly rather than just the hook.
