Rene, one old method for sizing mayfly proportions was to sit the fly upright on a flat surface. The fly should rest on the hackles, hook bend, and tail. This is pretty much obsolete thinking, as all materials have evolved, and parachute flies break all the rules. The new rule is proportions that reflect what you're trying to imitate. I can't recall seeing a proportion diagram for caddisflies, as the styles vary so much. DonO
