I'm being hit with a bug or virus now that nothing can find. My machine gives me an
'illegal operation' code (about 3 times a day) and then shuts down-
sometimes just the program, sometimes the whole pc.

I had the same problem a little over a year ago, and then someone on this list informed us about Spybot and Ad-aware. I don't remember who it was, but thank you! After running both programs and deleting everything, even from Microsoft, I re-ran the programs and found that several of those I had deleted were back! I then went into the temporary files and deleted them and then re-ran the programs. This time they were gone. I have not had the problem since. I now run both programs once a month. I don't know if that is your problem, but it's worth a try. I hope this helps.
