It plays for me on firefox with Mac and QT 7, in the browser window, but it doesnt fast start, so it takes a long time before it works. Is this the problem you mean? Most of these alternative mpeg4 & h264 encoders are not thinkign about fast-start when they are written. A few will probably work (eg I think elecard mobile converter on PC does) but Quicktime remains the safest bet for creating fast-start mp4's.
It wont work on the ipod because the vegas export will be making main profile h264 files, not the baseline that the ipod needs.
