As I have pondered this a bit more, I can think of one more reason to use an 
electrolytic capacitor : Moderately High Voltage (500 VDC or so).  You can get 
some fairly high voltage electrolytic capacitors and as such you can store 
large amounts of energy in them (9200 uF @ 500 VDC packs quite a punch).  My 
design generally ran off 24 Volt transformers so this was never a huge issue 
for me.
