That's the route I took many years ago. Some people thought I was a little nuts investing so much in the POR-15 kit and several hours of labour to reseal my original factory tank, when cheap, brand new aftermarket tanks were so readily available...

My original tank in my '73 had rusted thru in the filter sump area (where the water will collect). I bought a Brazillian-made "universal" replacement tank and found it would not fit without some judicious "reshaping" (pounding on it with a hammer) to fit the chassis opening. Once I got to fit, I found that the original spare (and washer tank) would not fit into the well..... so it's back to repairing the original and sealing it...... will let you know how it works out. _______________________________________________ vintagvw site list [email protected] http://lists.sjsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/vintagvw
