Heck, I'm still using Pine to read mail on this and one other other
account that I've had since around 1991 :)

I remember migrating from the "ramva" Usenet group 
(rec.autos.makers.volkswagen... ?) over to the vintagvw list around, I
think, 1993? It caused quite a coup, with listserv advocates on the one
side "defecting" and the Usenet holdouts complaining that the listserv
would never go anywhere. I held out for a while, not understanding or
appreciating what a "listserv" was and thinking that it couldn't possibly
be better than the Usenet group.  Oy...

I recently made a similar switch of opinion from preferring listservs and 
disliking web-forums (such as vBulletin) to preferring the web-forums (no
offense to John Sroka and all you fine vintagvw folks!)
