I went back and looked at your pictures of the Australian bug rescue with the chotas looking on. It just tells me that the VW is a vehicle with universal appeal. It's a shame that governments with their red tape and greed want to remove these old vehicles. Yeah they don't meet emissions however, they do use less fuel and catalytic convertors could be designed to help with the problems. I still don't see any other vehicle being produced that I'd want to own with one exception - the Smart Car from Mercedes - I love the idea of increased fuel mileage and a vehicle that is even smaller yet than the bug. I'm still a VW man and really, as I get older, I fully expect to be the only left in my county who is actively driving them. If I live to be 80, that would mean my Li'l Red would be 77 years old. I plan on keeping him that long - he's a darn good little car.
