I wonder if large fingers could press the center button of the headset easier if it were raised by a small piece of plastic being superglued to the center button.

SIRI works pretty well with my Apple EarPods and with the Bose MIE2i headphones. However, I'm using an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.3, and I'm thinking you are trying to use a later phone with a more recent iOS version.
