Hi Mary, You can make calls with other devices, e.g. an older iPhone without SIM or a WiFi only iPad even without WiFi calling. This is the setting Christopher mentioned, under Phone > Calls from other devices. The other device or devices must be on the same WiFi network as your primary phone and I believe must be using the same Apple Id. You are basically using the cellular modem of your primary phone as a hotspot for lack of a better word and the call is routed through your phone even if it is locked and sitting in another room. You can even make calls from your Mac this way and this was introduced I think in iOS 7. The WiFi calling feature from T-Mobile is similar except as you said you can even make a call from your iPad if you are out and about as long as you have WiFi access somewhere. However, your old 5S without SIM receiving calls/ringing at the same time as you r new 6S is because of the Calls from other devices setting, if you delete your 5S from there it will no longer ring when somebody else calls you.

I was only saying that I have iPhone with T-Mobile that has Wi-Fi calling. I have an iPad mini two which has no cellular capability. With the iPhone locked, I can make calls to landline's using an iPad mini over Wi-Fi. I can't see how that can be done if I didn't have Wi-Fi calling. Further, I recall seeing a T-Mobile promotion for Wi-Fi calling saying that if you left your Phone at home, say, but found yourself in a place where you had Wi-Fi connectivity and a device that you had okayed this calling from other devices through, you would be able to make calls on that device. So I suppose what I should do is leave my phone home and go to a nearby coffee shop where my iPad has the Wi-Fi network and see if I can make a call from there.
